Not just the scheduled arrival time — actual gate status, customs queues, and baggage claim delays. This means your driver is timing their arrival to meet you, not racing against a clock that has nothing to do with your actual landing.

After clearing customs, you walk into the International Arrivals hall. Your driver is standing in the greeter area with a sign showing your name. No searching, no phone calls trying to describe where you are standing, no circling the departures level hoping the car shows up.

For domestic arrivals, the process is similar — your driver is in the domestic arrivals hall, typically near the baggage claim exit.

Baggage Claim Timing

A common question: does my driver wait at the kerb while I wait for my bags? No — that is not how meet-and-greet works, and it would not serve you well even if it did.

Baggage claim at YVR can take anywhere from 10 minutes to 45 minutes depending on the flight, the terminal, and the day. Your driver waits inside the arrivals hall for you, not in a loading zone that has a 5-minute enforcement limit. When you walk out of the baggage claim area, your driver is there. You then walk to the vehicle together — typically a 2-to-5-minute walk to the private car pickup area on Level 1.

The $30 Arrivals Surcharge

You may notice that YVR arrival transfers include a meet-and-greet fee. This is a standard industry charge that covers the cost of a driver entering the airport, parking in the designated commercial pickup area, and waiting in the arrivals hall for your flight. It is not a markup — it is a direct cost passed through transparently.

What Happens if Your Flight is Delayed?

This is the most common concern with airport transfers, and the answer is simple: your driver monitors the flight and adjusts. If your flight is delayed by two hours, your driver does not arrive two hours early and wait in a paid parking lot at your expense. They track the actual arrival and time their departure accordingly.

Practical Tips for a Smooth YVR Pickup

• Book with your flight number. This is how your driver tracks real-time status. A booking without a flight number relies on estimated times.
• Provide your full name as it appears on the sign. Obvious, but easily overlooked when booking for someone else.
• Note any non-standard baggage. Golf clubs, ski equipment, oversized luggage — tell us at booking so the right vehicle is dispatched.
• Clear customs before looking for your driver. Your driver is on the public side of the arrivals hall. You cannot reach them until you are through.
• Have your mobile on. In rare cases — a very early landing, a different arrival gate — your driver may send a quick message with their exact position.

YVR Layout: Where to Walk

For international arrivals: clear customs and immigration on Level 2, pick up checked bags in the baggage claim area, then walk through the doors into the International Arrivals hall on Level 2. The greeter area is directly ahead.

For domestic arrivals: baggage claim is on Level 2 as well, exiting into the domestic arrivals area. Your driver will be visible from the carousel exit.

The private car pickup area is on Level 1. Your driver will walk you there — you do not need to navigate it yourself.

Why Not Just Take a Taxi or Rideshare?

For solo travellers with one bag and a destination five minutes away, a rideshare is fine. For anything else — multiple passengers, significant luggage, corporate arrivals, guests you are responsible for — the comparison breaks down quickly.

Rideshare availability at YVR is variable, particularly during peak arrival windows when dozens of flights land simultaneously. Wait times of 20 to 30 minutes in a crowded kerb area are common. A private transfer means your car is already allocated to you before you land.
